NGC 6946, aka the Fireworks Galaxy, is a face-on spiral on the boundary between Cepheus and Cygnus. About 25 million light years distant, NGC 6946 lies within the Virgo Supercluster.
Imaged from MYHY Observatory in the Philadelphia suburbs in 2003 — one of the first color images I ever attempted! Equipment included a 10″ OGS RC at f/9 with an SBIG ST10XME on a Paramount ME. LRGB with about 2 hours Lum (unbinned) and 30 minutes RGB/channel (binned 2×2). Processed with CCDsoft and Adobe PS in 2003 and reprocessed with some newer techniques in 2015.
