NGC 2442, aka the “Meathook Galaxy”, is about 50 million light years away in Volans.

Image by SSRO/PROMPT/CTIO in 2008 using a 16″ RCOS at f/11.3, SBIG ST10XME, and Paramount ME. Image scale 0.30″/pixel. LRGB with 2 hrs lum, 1 hr/channel RGB. Calibration in Maxim, alignment in Registar, integration in Sigma Combine, and virtually everything else in Photoshop.
